Reasons To Try Dry January

Reasons To Try Dry January
If you’re still trying to wrap your head around what Dry January is all about, let us help you. A tradition first started in the UK in 2014, Dry January is a month where individuals go alcohol-free for a whole month.

The reason for this is that for some, it is part of a New Year’s resolution to drink less while for others it is a way for them to detox, especially after the excessive drinking over the holidays. The tradition has been catching up all across the globe, even here in Singapore.

Going booze-free may be tough for some people, but there are several benefits to taking up this challenge. Firstly, you will notice that your skin will get brighter and start to look better. Your sleep patterns will start to improve and you will begin to enjoy more nights of good sleep.

Not only will you be saving money, but you will also feel calmer and be more energised. Within 2 weeks without drinking liquor, you will not face any alcohol-related acid reflux as your stomach lining returns to normal from alcohol’s negative effects.

A research published in 2018, conducted by the Royal Free Hospital, stated that experiencing a month alcohol-free will lower blood pressure, reduce the risk of diabetes, lower cholesterol and also reduce levels of cancer-related proteins in the blood. This is really good news for those who are very conscious about their health and want their waistline to shrink.

Going a full month without consuming alcohol may not be easy for some people. Which is why it is important to break up your routine to successfully complete the challenge. Instead of coming back home after work to a glass of wine, decide to go for a run or attend that arts workshop that you have been meaning to for a long time or even go catch a new movie in theatres! Start to make non-drinking plans with your friends and family; go out cycling in a park, play bowling or even visit a museum! You will realise that your evenings seem longer and you will feel fresher before heading to bed.

If you do not think that you can fully commit to the challenge, you can always ask a friend or partner to hold you accountable. Even make a bet with them if you want to play it safe. However, if drinking is really a habit for you, it is important for you to find a replacement drink. A can of Coke or even bubble tea is not going to cut it, you will only end up risking yourself to diabetes.

Fret not, as there are now several non-alcoholic options here in Singapore for you to choose from. If you are an avid beer drinker, you should know by now that big giants such as Heineken and Carlsberg have launched their own version of alcohol-free beer. Swig those and see if it betters your condition. If you prefer spirits more, you can find Seedlip & Lyre’s ranges of bottles very suitable for your liking. Mix up your favourite cocktails with their non-alcoholic spirits and I am sure you will be able to last the month.

Lastly, if you absolutely just love wine, you do not have to look anywhere else. Spice Wines has a big selection of red and white wines that will make you savour each drop as you enjoy them from the serenity of your home. With limitless choices of alcohol-free drinks at your disposal, we are sure that you will be able to enjoy a very healthy and motivating month of Dry January, starting today. We wish you all the very best!
